The "Key Technologies and Equipment for Excavation and Transportation of Deep-sea Polymetallic Nodules and Cobalt-rich Crusts" project of the National 863 Program was successfully tested in a certain sea area of the South China Sea recently and passed the acceptance test of the expert group. This is the first time that China has carried out the sea test of deep-sea mining monomer engineering technology. The success of sea test indicates that China's deep-sea mineral transportation technology has become the first-class in the world.
It is understood that the sea test breaks through the safe distribution technology under the conditions of wind, waves and currents, ensures the safety of underwater equipment, realizes the safe and efficient distribution and recovery of pipelines and pumps under the complicated sea conditions, breaks through the multi-stage centrifugal pump transportation technology under the suspension condition, guarantees the smooth flow of coarse particles and the stability of pipeline force, and realizes the goal. Stable transportation of coarse particles and high concentration of simulated polymetallic nodules under long distance and large flow rate. The marine test system, including the distribution and recovery subsystem of lifting pump pipe and the transportation subsystem of mineral pump pipe, has been developed and designed by China, and has complete intellectual property rights.
